Chromesthesia art
Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which a person's senses are somewhat wired together in their brain. Chromesthesia (sound-to-color synesthesia) is a specific form of synesthesia in which sound involuntarily evokes an experience of color, shape, texture, and movement. I use this condition to make art of different songs, trying to reproduce what I see when I listen to the songs.
These are the first chromesthesia paintings I made. Before I learned how to create textures with paint, I used a gel medium to apply a sound wave of the song, then paint the colors of the song over that sound wave.
These are the next version of my chromesthesia paintings. This is where I started creating the colors and shapes that I saw with paint.
Finally, after creating quite a few chromesthesia paintings, I realized I couldn't quite get the textures and shapes how I wanted them, so I decided to try using my graphic design skills to make chromesthesia art. I took pictures of objects that resembled the sounds I heard and manipulated them in Photoshop to look how the song does.
These are the results so far. More to come!
